I have really hesitated putting up a Christmas background this early - you know the argument - It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and Valentine's Day is almost here. I really don't like that Halloween starts just after school gets going again, and it really bugs me that Thanksgiving is almost completely skipped over as soon as October 12th rolls around.
But, then another thing that bugs me is that we only have four Sundays to sing the Christmas hymns in church. Heaven forbid we start singing Christmas songs in November! :) I love the Christmas hymns, and think they have such a strong message of Christ, that I wish we would sing them at other times in the year. I've even been in a ward where Christmas hymns were not even scheduled - at all! Thankfully, I was the organist, so I took things into my own hands and changed the December schedule to allow for the Christmas hymns.
So, I was thinking about Thanksgiving, and was hesitant to put a Christmas background up, when it dawned on me - one thing I'm extremely thankful for, is Christmas. I love this time of year - it's my favorite holiday. Finding that perfect gift that will make my kids or Brandons faces light up with joy. Finding acts of service that we can do for others. Being reminded on a daily basis of Christ and His birth and the whole reason He came to earth.
I also love Santa Claus and the origin of St. Nick. He was an incredible person that did for others, and we have adopted him into our society. Granted, he's become WAY too commercialized for my taste, but it started out good, and I try to teach his origin to my children and keep that in mind as this season rolls around.
So, if you're really upset that I rolled over Thanksgiving and jumped to Christmas, I'm sorry. But, Christmas really, truly is my favorite holiday, and something for which I'm truly thankful! I love my Savior and His Atonement, and that he would take my sins upon Him, and forgive me for the little stupid things that I do daily, as well as the big mistakes I've made, and others that I will probably make. What better way to remember Him than to have the reminder of Him daily when I log into my blog?
So, that being said - Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas!

I was TOTALLY going to put up a Christmas background when I changed mine a week or so ago, and decided maybe it was still a little early. :) So I hear you! I think we got spoiled in HiLites when it was Christmas, Christmas, Christmas starting at the end of October, so we got lots of time to sing them--and we sang them (performed them, even) multiple times a day! I LOOOOOVE Christmas, so I say go for it! :) Love you, Renee!! Are you guys going to be at your folks at all for the holidays?
I accually put up a christmas background up and then took it down a day later! I love this time of year too. It is hard for me to get into the spirit though, it is still 75 degrees here during the day. It's just not the same without the cold weather.
