Whoa!!!

You've all seen the "afters" of their haircuts. This time I thought I'd show you the "befores!" Pretty scary, huh?

Grease

So, Saturday was crazy, busy for me. The boys were up before 7:30 (what happened to my one day of sleeping in??) playing and laughing and wanting breakfast. After breakfast, we had to do haircuts - my boys (Brandon included) were all looking kind of shaggy. After that, from about 11:30 to 2:00, I had to squeeze in a shower, make cinnamon rolls, eat lunch, do my hair and makeup, and make it to choir practice on time. Choir wasn't over until around 3:45, so I didn't make it home until 4:00. *sigh* I helped Brandon with some lists that needed checking against other lists, then I finally got time to call my sister.

She wasn't home, and her son was sorely disappointed that BYU was losing right then. She called me back and we chatted for a while, as we always do, when Brandon came up and said that if we could have dinner made and eaten in 30 minutes, we'd do something cool. I was thinking it was maybe a game on the Wii, or building Lego's with the boys, so I didn't hurry too much. I did get dinner ready, though, and when we sat down to eat, he told me I had ten minutes to eat, change my clothes and be ready for our cool thing. Huh?

So, I swallowed dinner, changed my clothes, and got ready. Come to find out, the high school was putting on a production of Grease! He took me out for ice cream at Charlies (chocolate ice cream, with crushed oreos mixed in - Yummy!). The play was pretty good, and it was fun to get out. I couldn't help but sing along, and it made me miss being involved in musical things everyday. It was a lot of fun, and such a nice surprise! Thanks Brandon!

Christmas background

I have really hesitated putting up a Christmas background this early - you know the argument - It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and Valentine's Day is almost here. I really don't like that Halloween starts just after school gets going again, and it really bugs me that Thanksgiving is almost completely skipped over as soon as October 12th rolls around.

But, then another thing that bugs me is that we only have four Sundays to sing the Christmas hymns in church. Heaven forbid we start singing Christmas songs in November! :) I love the Christmas hymns, and think they have such a strong message of Christ, that I wish we would sing them at other times in the year. I've even been in a ward where Christmas hymns were not even scheduled - at all! Thankfully, I was the organist, so I took things into my own hands and changed the December schedule to allow for the Christmas hymns.

So, I was thinking about Thanksgiving, and was hesitant to put a Christmas background up, when it dawned on me - one thing I'm extremely thankful for, is Christmas. I love this time of year - it's my favorite holiday. Finding that perfect gift that will make my kids or Brandons faces light up with joy. Finding acts of service that we can do for others. Being reminded on a daily basis of Christ and His birth and the whole reason He came to earth.

I also love Santa Claus and the origin of St. Nick. He was an incredible person that did for others, and we have adopted him into our society. Granted, he's become WAY too commercialized for my taste, but it started out good, and I try to teach his origin to my children and keep that in mind as this season rolls around.

So, if you're really upset that I rolled over Thanksgiving and jumped to Christmas, I'm sorry. But, Christmas really, truly is my favorite holiday, and something for which I'm truly thankful! I love my Savior and His Atonement, and that he would take my sins upon Him, and forgive me for the little stupid things that I do daily, as well as the big mistakes I've made, and others that I will probably make. What better way to remember Him than to have the reminder of Him daily when I log into my blog?

So, that being said - Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas!

To prove I'm not a complete Thanksgiving Scrooge . . .

I stole this from Jill O's blog - I thought they were pretty funny! Thanks Jill!

Absolutely - a glass one that goes on my piano, and a wooden one that I made at a Super Saturday several years ago that the kids can play with to act out the story.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail....Do people really Email them???

The commercialism (is that a word?) And, having to do my grocery shopping when everybody else in the world is standing in the same line as me. It's a pain (literally and figuratively) to stand in line for 45 minutes just to get some milk, bread, toilet paper, and butter.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
Last year, my mother-in-law, and sister-in-law (thanks LaRean & Linda) talked me into getting new ornaments for a really nice tree. Teal (my favorite color) and ivory ornaments, silver ribbon, and crystal icicles, with white lights. It was so pretty last year!

Smoked Ham, Corn, Cheesey Potatoes, Stuffing, and my mother-in-laws crescent rolls! Yummy!

To have the opportunity to do something nice for somebody else. I'm considering having our family adopt a grandparent from a senior citizen center or a rest home this year. But, I'm having a hard time, because I've always had this anxiety about rest homes.

I'm not going to tag anyone, but if anyone wants to do this, it's a lot of fun to think back on Christmases past!

What do you think are your rights??

Okay, so I was involved in a discussion online today, and I mentioned that I believe that every person has the right to feel comfortable no matter where they're at. Now, sometimes you can leave a situation if you're not comfortable - other times, that's just not possible.

The discussion involved nursing a baby in public. Apparantley, in Canada, a woman was asked to go to the changing rooms or the viewing area of a privately owned pool because she was nursing her baby on the steps of the pool. A big discussion ensued after this

One lady was especially pro-nursing, claiming that it's her right to nurse a baby in public. I agree with this. I believe I have every right to feed my baby however and whenever I want (as long as it's not illegal, but come on, it's me!!) What I don't agree with is the woman that has no discretion whatsoever. I believe you can nurse in public, but have your shirt pulled down to the baby's mouth, and a second shirt on or a blanket to cover the stomach. Or a blanket thrown over the baby's head. This lady was VERY against this. She kept saying that it was "her right, and my baby's right, and who's to take that right away from me?" She also said that she doesn't care what others around her think or feel, so that's when I stated that I believe every person has the right to feel comfortable where they're at.

Example - don't I have the right to go to a restaurant of my choosing and to feel comfortable there? Or to go shopping at a mall with my three boys and to feel comfortable? Or go to a park an feel comfortable? I'm perfectly fine with a woman nursing her baby in public if it's discreet. I feel very uncomfortable when a woman is baring all. Maybe it's because I've grown up feeling that my body is very sacred and private, so to nurse with everything out there makes me uncomfortable for that person. Anyway . . .

So, to those blog readers out there - "What do you think are your rights?" Now, I know that some people haven't had babies, or had the chance to nurse, or even want to nurse - I'm not asking about that. I just want to know what you believe your rights are, from both directions - from a nursing mom, to an innocent bystander that might or might not be comfortable seeing a mom nurse her baby in public. And church doesn't count - moms (whether nursing or bottle feeding) have all sat in that little room on those "church-issued" chairs to feed their baby. I'm talking about in public - i.e. a restaurant, a mall, Walmart, a park, a pool . . . What are your thoughts?

Gavin - aka the Aztec King

Last night as I was cleaning up the dinner dishes, Gavin came running into the kitchen chasing the cats. So, I turned around to scold him for chasing them after me asking him many, many, many, MANY times throughout the day to stop chasing them. This is what I saw:

He found my knee brace and decided that it would make a good head covering. At least it's being used for something, even if not for what it was designed for! He even fell asleep with it last night - this time wrapped around his leg instead of his head.

Fall Fun

Where's Gavin??

I love having our own house, and our own yard - with fully grown trees, for the most part. And, I love the leaves! Our backyard has been yellow and crunchy for the past few weeks. Today, we all spent some time raking and playing in the leaves. Here's Scottie's idea of fall fun. If I didn't have a bad hip and knee, I just might join him! It was a lot of fun to watch him.

BOO!!!
