New Year's Eve

The night was spent with family - all of Brandon's family was there and we had a lot of fun. The game of Spoons/Straws/Pig (whatever name you've played by - we played by all three that night) is really quite fun. I'd never played before, so it was fun for me. We laughed, we ate snacks, we listened to my nephew, Mason, sing "Hey, Soul Sister" with Train during the NYE celebration on TV.

Playing Spoons

The Shaffer gang

After our Spoons game, my BIL, Jason, packed some flour in a cup, inverted it onto a plate and put an M & M on top. We had to pass the plate around and try to cut some of the flour off with a knife without making the M & M topple. We passed it around quite a few times, each time thinking it would be the last.

Calm Molly, and nervous Linda

Molly was seriously fearless. The rest of us would hesitantly cut the flour praying that our shaking hands wouldn't bump the plate and make the M & M fall, and she just sliced through the flour as though it was no big thing!

And, I love how nervous Linda looks in the above picture! It was a tense game.

Linda's turn

LaRean goes after it

My last time, I was a little ambitious and cut just a little bit too much, and it toppled on me. Oh, and the loser (that's me) had to pick up the M & M in their mouth - no hands allowed. I hoped that it would just stick to my tongue, but it just pushed it further into the flour, so I had no choice but to do a face plant into the flour. :)

"Hmm - where should I cut?"

"I'll try here . . ."

"Maybe it'll just stick to my tongue so I don't have to get flour everywhere"

"No go . . . Face plant!"

Me, the gracious "loser"

I had to get all of the flour out of my nose and mouth. Blech!

We had the NYE festivities going on in the background, and when Train came on to sing "Hey Soul Sister" I had to get a video of my nephew singing it. He's super cute.

Thanks for the fun times, Shaffer family!
