I know this is really late, but it's better late than never, right? So here goes. We put Gavin in the preschool offered through the child development class at the high school. This was his second year of attending and he loved it. He loved being able to go to the same school as daddy, and to sometimes have dad take him to school.
Towards the end, he started feeling a little reluctant to go, and after some talking and digging and prodding, we found out that he didn't like one of the teachers. When asked why, he said, "You know, because she has brown skin." Yikes!
He's the only one of the kids that has spoken up about somebody's skin color, even going so far as to say he's not going to play with someone on the playground because their skin is brown. It's been a hard, slow road to go down with him, but I think we're making progress in teaching him that skin color is just that - a color - and that it's not okay to be mean or exclude people because of their skin.
Anyway, here are a few pictures/videos of Gavin at his preschool graduation. In just a few weeks, he'll be headed into kindergarten! When did my baby grow up?
