An award!!

I received an award from my good friend Tami! Thank you so much! I love to blog. It's fun! I blog for the fun of it, not for the glory! And, of course, the to tell the story of my life and my kids. It's my journal!

The following is a description of the award:

"I really like this award because of the way it says that these bloggers are not interested in lots of prizes, awards, etc. I have been to some blogs, where the only goal seems to be snatching blog awards anywhere they can find them, whether they have been given these awards or not. The blogs I love are ones that I can relate to. The ones that deal with lifes joys, pitfalls & surprises with grace and laughter.

The award states:

"This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

"I award the following bloggers: Amber, April, Jen, Val, Melanie, Kristen, Audri, and Kathy. And both Jill's!"

Where's Santa?

If your kids are as excited as mine about Santa coming tonight, go to www.noradsanta.org and check it out! You can track him as he goes. And, if you have Google Earth, you can watch him go in 3D! Scott has been so excited to see him go all day!

Merry Christmas, all!

My parents gift to me

Hmm - big box

Wonder if I can see anything on the box?

What is it? What is it?

A new sewing machine!!

How sweet! Thanks Mom & Dad!

So, my old sewing machine was literally 25 years old. It was one that my mom had used for a while, and when I got married, she gave it to me. It was a great little machine, but lately when I've gone to sew on it, little problems have come up. The thread getting all tangled and knotted up, the thread breaking in the middle of sewing, the needle breaking . . . I had called my parents to ask if they knew how to fix it, and they said that they would look at it when they came up over the weekend.

So, last weekend, they came up - my dad was going to help Brandon wire the garage with lights and plugs (their Christmas present to us). When they got here, my dad carried this big box in and set it in my lap. He told me that it was their present to me, but that I had to wait until they had the camera! I opened it up, and thought at first that it was a Wii Fit - my parents love theirs, and we're planning on getting one soon. Once it was opened, though, and saw that it was a sewing machine, I was even more excited!

This is my mom's new/old machine. She's only had it for about 5 years, and it was recently serviced and is in better than new condition! My mom and I went out the next day to get some material for some new pillowcases for the boys! It works so nicely, and I'm so excited to sew more things on it! Blankets, dresses, skirts, crafts . . . I love it!

Thanks again, Mom & Dad, for everything!

Boys Christmas pictures

A cute picture of Scott & Gavin in their thermal underwear! They had been out playing in the snow before this, and Brandon thought this was just too cute to pass up! They're both adorable!

So, last week I took pictures of the boys for our Christmas cards. The one at the top of my blog is the one that I sent out to everyone - it turned out so cute, and I had a lot of fun "photoshopping" it, so that just the hats were red! Enjoy!

You've heard of a wet dog, before???

How about a wet cat? (And, in answer to a comment - No, they don't smell like a wet dog. I couldn't smell them at all!)

The other day, I gave the cats a bath, and I got them both bathed without a single scratch! Go me! Here's the end result:

Santa's Visit

My three boys with Santa

So a couple of weeks ago (I'm slow, I know) we had our ward Christmas party, complete with the Christmas story put on by the Primary kids (B was an angel, Scott was a shepherd), and a visit from Santa. We had forgotten the camera, so we didn't get any pictures during the program, but I made Brandon run home and get it so we could get pictures with Santa. There's no way I'm going to go stand in line at the mall for two hours for a 15 second stint on Santa's lap, when he's sitting in the gym right in front of us! Gavin was so cute, and had the biggest smile on his face when it was his turn on Santa's lap! How fun!

First snow fall

Today, I woke up to snow - the first of the season! As the boys trudged upstairs to get some breakfast and I told them about the snow, their reactions were SO different.

Says Braden -
"I don't care."
He keeps walking up the stairs to get some breakfast.

Says Scott -
"*GASP!*"
He ran into the front room and opened up the blinds and just sat there with the most enraptured look on his face. It was so cute. I wish I had gotten a picture! He insisted on wearing his snow boots, even though there's only an inch or so out there!

Says Gavin, when he finally sees the snow -
"*GASP!* Mom, look it, at the snow!! Can I go play in it??"

For the record, B finally warmed up to the snow, and wanted to go touch it. I'm sure he'll get plenty of opportunities today at recess!

Our Christmas tree

My brother and sister in law found this truck last year and gave them to all of us this year! It's such a cute, fun reminder of all of our Christmas tree hunts together!

We got home from my sister's Sunday night after Thanksgiving, and put our tree in it's stand. Monday night for FHE, we all got the Christmas decorations out and decorated the tree. I think it turned out great. The one problem? Gavin keeps playing with the bulbs, lights, and ribbon, so it almost needs to be re-decorated already! *sigh* Curious kid!

My mantle - I don't have stockings up yet because I'm trying to find stocking holders that aren't $7 a piece! $35 bucks is a bit much for a decoration that will be up once a year! :) But, the rest of the mantel looks great! This is my favorite room right now!

A really cool picture I took of some of the ornaments on the tree!

Tree hunting & my grandparents

For the Thanksgiving break, we stayed with my sister until Sunday afternoon, so I have a few more days to blog about. On Saturday, most of the family went up in the mountains to go Christmas tree hunting. It's been a family tradition for as long as I can remember, but we haven't had the chance to go up for a while. So, this year, I was really looking forward to it.

Nathan, my brother, had gone up the week before and said that there was maybe two inches of snow up in the high mountains. And, temperatures had been in the 40's all week, so we weren't expecting it to be too cold. But, I bundled the kids up anyway (it's easier to take things off, then to put things on that we don't have), and I'm so glad we did. The wind up there was SO cold!!! But, we found our trees quickly, and munched on some cookies and hot chocolate. Then, while the rest of the family went home, Anne Marie's family and my family went further up the mountain for a cold, winter's picnic.

Me, all bundled up against the cold. I get BAD earaches if I don't keep my ears warm!

It was snowing by this time, so while Mike took kids for a ride behind their 4-wheeler, Anne Marie, Rachel, and I scrounged around for some wood for a fire! Yes, a fire, in the snow! We managed to get a good fire going, and then made pb&j sandwiches. It was such a fun experience - eating a picnic lunch in the mountains, with snow falling all around and huddling around a fire. These are the things that memories are made of!

Our snowy picnic

Renee & Braden on the 4-wheeler

After our picnic, Anne Marie's family went home, and we went to visit my grandparents. They've been sick for a while, so every time we go out there, we try to swing by and visit with them for a bit. Last time we were out, we took our video camera out and taped them while they were talking. It turned out so nice, that we did it again. Brandon "interviewed" my granddad and got him talking about when he was young. What a special thing to have this recorded so that our kids and grandkids can "know" Granddad and Grandma Goodrich even when they're gone. We had a good visit with them, but had to go back to Anne Marie's far too soon.

My grandparents

We went to church with them on Sunday, and had family pictures arranged, but due to some family members not being able to come, we had to cancel them. So, we packed up to leave, but our poor boys threw a fit. They DID NOT want to go. Scott even went and hid from us, hoping that if he hid long enough, we wouldn't have to go home!

Scott, hiding from Brandon

Scott, so sad we had to leave

We had a good visit with Anne Marie and the family though, and we're hoping that they can come up here for a visit very soon! Thanks again for letting us stay!

Thanksgiving!

Okay, I'm bad, I know. I've just been in a posting slump. I've got things to post about, I just don't care too. It seems like too much work! (C'mon, Renee. Seriously, how hard is it to blog???) So, anyway, I'll blog about our Thanksgiving.

We drove out to my sisters house on Wednesday afternoon/evening, and got to play with her kids that night. Dallin was 2 months old then, and I had a blast holding him and feeding him, and just playing with him. He's smiling, now, and loves to talk to you. My niece, Rachel, and I would "fight" over who got to hold him. She loves her little brother so much, and is a great help!

Dallin - I'm nice & cute!

So, the next morning, I put my rolls out to rise, and they turned out wonderful! I don't think they were quite as good as my mother-in-law makes, but they were pretty darn good! I got rave reviews all afternoon about them! We all went up to my mom's house for Thanksgiving dinner. It was crazy, but a lot of fun, even with 29 people there - three of which were babies under 3 months old! We had a 2 month old, a one month old, and a 2 day old! It was fun to hold all these little babies.

Dinner was wonderful, as usual. My sister made our usual cranberry salad - my favorite Thanksgiving dish! I LOVE this cranberry salad. I'll be making it for Christmas, too. After cleaning up the dishes, we put Wall-E on. I HIGHLY recommend this movie! It is SO good! My boys have watched it MANY times since coming home after Thanksgiving. And, I get sucked into it, too! It's really very good.

Anyway, the next morning, all of the sisters-in-law got together and went shopping at Walmart. They had DVD's there for $2, so I loaded up! It was fun to go shopping with my sister, even if it was in crazy Walmart the day after Christmas! Rachel wasn't able to come with us for lack of room in the van, so I promised her that I would get some fingernail polish and we would paint our nails after we got back. She wanted hot pink for the fingernails, and lime green for our toenails.

I couldn't find lime green, but I did find a light olive green. It looked really gross in the bottle, but that's all they had, so we got it anyway. (Once we got it on, it was actually really pretty!) And, we got a hot pink. They had two colors there, and while Anne Marie and I were comparing colors, one of them slipped and fell on the hard floor! It shattered, and fingernail polish went all over my shoes and my pants! Ahh!! My sister and I scattered to look for some wet wipes, but the polish wouldn't come off. I did get most of it off my pants, but it won't come off my nice leather shoes. I've tried Goo Be Gone, and fingernail polish remover, and alcohol. Nothing is budging this. *sigh* But, we still had fun, and Rachel's nails looked lovely!

I love going out to my sister's house to visit. Even though we're ten years apart in age, I feel so close to her. Next to Brandon, she's my best friend, and I absolutely love her kids. They're already planning a summer getaway to spend with my kids! :)
